Nerf Hornet AS-6 Review (5/10)

Nerf revisited the Semi Auto system of the Blastfire for use on today's battlefield. The end result was a success  that after weeks became a nightmare. Say hello to the Hornet AS-6, Nerf's first failure of the N-Strike lineup.

Nerf decided to reuse the concept of an air powered semi auto system from the old Blastfire and Mad Hornet(Guess where the name came from?) I own 2, you'll see why in a second. The gun came packed in 3 sets, by itself(Blue), the Unity Power System(Red), and the Hulk Power System(Green) And boy does it look pretty sick. They took the Blastfire's great system and added an extra dart and took half the Mad Hornet's name and slapped AS-6 next to it. Fancy.

The gun preformed excellent the first week in use. 60 foot ranges in semi auto and no loss in the blast fire/shotgun mode. I had a feeling that Nerf really worked wonders with the Blastfire after all. A week later, the nightmare. My first Hornet's semi auto stopped functioning, its blast fire remained to operate. That really set my nerve on fire thinking that Hasbro could screw up a blaster they technically already built back in 2000. My friend gave me his blaster with the same issue. No semi, working shotgun.

In the end, the reliability of a Hornet is like the shelf life of a guy wearing red on Star Trek. I just don't get how Nerf can ruin an already great blaster.

The Verdict
Range: Great, 60 feet in both modes
Size: Slightly larger than a stripped down Recon
Reliability: A big fat ZERO, the guns semi auto breaks after a week or so of use.
RoF: 1 dart per 0.5 seconds(depending on your pull) or all at once
Ammo: 6 micro darts
Modding: As long as it doesn't break, plenty potential.
Value: At $20, it's worse than the Blastfire as it's more prone to breakage. Buy one if want to test your luck.

UPDATE: Street Tag Warfare has a fix on the semi auto problem. Its some production issue apparently with a catch on the slide. I was about to throw mine away until I found this.
