Nerf Mega BigShock Review (7/10)

You've seen enough of me already.

No I haven't vanished yet guys, I've just been sitting on this one for while now. No real need to explain or anything... I mean just look at it! What about this pistol makes it any different front the millions of Jolt variants that have flooded the market other than that it's twice as big? Oh it's painted red I guess, Nerf hasn't done that to a Jolt yet, but despite it being another iteration of the most mundane blaster on the planet, it's actually quite solid.

Size compared to a Triad and a Jolt. The family has been putting on some pounds lately.

So it's a Jolt that fires Mega darts, big deal. Sure I can go into detail about how it's bigger(as you can quite clearly see) and how it's also much more comfortable to hold because it wasn't designed for a small child but there's one important detail you might notice.

*Insert much vulgar language here.*

Wait, what the hell? A grey trigger? But that makes no sense, grey triggers are for the Australians! No I didn't buy an Australian BigShock because here's the kicker, all US BigShocks are grey triggered. So don't be worried about finding a BigShock only to be turned away by the color of it's trigger, you won't find one that's orange, ever. This is because all blasters that don't perform up to Elite standards like the Sharpfire are grey triggered and put into the old N-Strike lineup. I don't know, I guess Nerf is pretty clingy to old lineups nowadays.

Take off the red shell and look! How utterly boring.

"So it's a giant Jolt, I get it. What about this one that makes it so special compared to the others?" The answer is this: doubling the size of the blaster nearly doubled everything that made the Jolt great, but take into this into account: nearly. Yeah as you can figure the BigShock is only marginally more powerful than the Jolt, hitting ranges of 30 to 40 feet due to it firing a larger projectile which kind of negates the larger plunger tube. And it might not fit in your pocket, although that depends on what kind of pants you wear... if any. On the plus side, it's more comfortable to hold than a Jolt, you get extra space for one more dart, and if you are an avid modder, a bigger plunger tube means more power. Plus being single barreled, unlike the Triad, means you won't have to worry about destroying a Smart AR system to get it shoot further. Good deal.

So yeah, while the BigShock has more bells and whistles than a Jolt, it's $8 dollar price tag is justifiable(If you're dirt cheap and can't pay the $3 bucks extra for one) unless you happen to know how to mod it. The Jolt is cheaper, just as powerful, and more easily concealable. All the BigShock has going for it is a bigger grip and extra dart storage but if you have gorilla hands, that may just enough to sway you to buy one. I'm going to give the BigShock a 7 out of 10 because it really is a solid blaster, it's just one nobody asked for.

The Verdict

Class- Heavy Compact Pistol

Range- Good, 30 to 40 feet.

Size- Slightly bigger than a Triad.

Reliability- No issues.

Ammo- 2 2013 Mega Darts

Modding- Same as a Jolt but the results are much better.
Value- At $8, it's only a bit more expensive than the Jolt but about equal in performance.qual i
