Star Wars First Order Stormtrooper Blaster Review (8/10)

As if this would help a Stormtrooper hit his target.
The second blaster of our trip through the galaxy is the Stormtrooper Blaster. This pistol is the smaller counterpart to the Stormtrooper Deluxe rifle I reviewed earlier. For a blaster of this size, it's not cheap but it's performance is really quite surprising. Let's take a closer look.

Size compared to a Doublestrike and a Bigshock.
Out of the box, this blaster is really quite small, comparable to some of the smaller pistols on the market. The build quality is solid an the action is smooth but not all is good. Unless you unfortunately lost your pinky finger, the grip on this blaster will be too small for most people. Another con I found was the lack of dart storage, I mean we got pockets but seriously, having some spare ammo on the blaster would be nice. The is a tactical rail with some removable sights but they only serve to make the blaster less compact.
Priming handle is recessed into the back of the blaster.
So it's not exactly comfortable unless you're 4 years old. At least it's better to hold than the Venom Shot; that was a travesty. But taking it's size into account, most of the grievances against it's baby hand tiny ergonomics can be overlooked. It's easy to operate, easily concealable, and check this, it's got power. Quite a lot of power.
Internals are simple and very effective.
This little bastard can hurl darts at ranges of around 40 to 50 feet and it's fairly accurate too. This means it's a bit more powerful than the Bigshock, and it's definitely more powerful than the piece of crap also known as the Sharpfire. The culprit here is that it has a Firestrike/Jolt style plunger with a pretty beefy feeling spring to boot. The nice thing about this system is that it's simply built, and modding this blaster shouldn't be hard at all.

All in all the Stormtrooper pistol is a pretty solid little blaster. It packs a surprisingly good amount of power for such a small package and it can be a very good holdout weapon when you need it. It's only downsides are the ergonomics but it shouldn't be too much of an issue assuming you don't plan on using this as your sole blaster. I'm going to give it an 8 out of 10 for packing nice power into a compact package but I do wish it was a little more comfortable. Star Wars fan or not, it's worth taking a look at.

The Verdict
Class- Compact Pistol
Range- Good, 40 to 50 feet.
Size- Similar to a Doublestrike or Bigshock.
Reliability- No issues.
Ammo- 1 Elite Dart
Modding- Simply designed internals mean a pretty large amount of possibilities.
Value- At $15, it's pretty pricey for it's size, power or not. It's up to you.

Is It Better Than?

Firestrike- No, this blaster packs more of a punch and is a better size for most users. Also the Firestrike is $5 bucks cheaper than the Stormtrooper pistol and is a bit more open to modding. This is definitely one of the best small pistols on the market and you should get one.

Bigshock- Depends, the Bigshock is a better size than the Stormtrooper pistol and actually has ammo storage; one for what it's worth. However it is slightly less powerful and has the disadvantage of using an odd ammo type. It's cheaper though! Everyone loves cheaper stuff.

Sharpfire- No, absolutely hell no. The Sharpfire took the cake as being one of the worst blasters I've reviewed recently. It costs the same as the Stormtrooper pistol, shoots much worse and feels much worse. Don't even bother.
