Back before compact blasters were, well actually compact, you had stuff like this. The Mono Blast was made to fill the role of a small but fairly powerful blaster that was also fairly inexpensive. The problem was though, while it achieved what it was set out to do, it also failed in several other ways.
Size compared to a Firestrike.
Not much is to really be said about the aesthetics of the blaster, it's just really strange. The grip is small but fairly comfortable but larger hand will probably have a hard time with this blaster. The prime is fairly smooth and there is adequate dart storage to get you by. The top part that's looks like a scope(Which you can also look through if that's what you fancy) is actually the plunger and by some black magic the barrel is located right below it. How the hell does this thing work?

Well, nothing really all that special, it basically works like a Nite Finder but the air is redirected dawn into the barrel and then out through the dart post. So not only do you lose power by the air getting forced into dead space, you loose even more power thanks to the shitty dart post design! Yet the thing still manages to get respectable ranges, at around 35 feet. This is really only achieved because the blaster's recoil drives the dart upward so you tend to overshoot your target, another design fault. Also this thing is fragile, like stupid fragile. My first Mono Blast(The one with the coupler) had the entire front of it's plunger tube busted off because the plunger head just slams into it over and over again. If that wasn't bad enough to plunger rod is hollow and the plastic is brittle. I can't tell you how many times I've pulled off the endcap trying the prime it because the tabs holding it on snapped off.
In the end I just sealed up the bottom barrel and tossed a coupler onto the front. I also glued a pencil into the plunger rod because I was too paranoid at this point that it was going to snap. Back onto the stock version, it's not a bad pistol. It's small, gets decent ranges, and it's fairly accurate but it tends to overshoot targets. My biggest beef with the Mono Blast is is it's reliability, because of it's design it's just not a very durable pistol. I give the Mono Blast a 3.5 because it's more or less a usable sidearm, until the front end shatters and the endcap snaps off.
The Verdict
Class- Compact Pistol
Range- Decent, about 35 feet.
Size- About the same size as a Firestrike.
Reliability- Big issues, they tend to happen after prolonged use but they're there.
Ammo- 3 Micro Darts
Modding- Some potential, it is possible to work around the stupid barrel system.
Is It Better Than?
Firestrike- No, the Firestrike annihilates the Mono Blast in performance. It's the same size, far more reliable and it pars a far more massive punch than the Mono Blast. You tell me which one you would get?
