Razer Mamba 2012 Review (5)

Time for an electronics review! Hooray... Here we got Razer's top of the line gaming mouse, the Mamba, in its revamped 2012 edition. See if its really worth its $130 dollar price tag after the jump.

It looks as id Razer intended the mouse's box to be more of a museum piece than a cardboard container for holding your little gadget inside. I mean really, the damn mouse itself sits on a pedestal. A top of the line mouse needs a top of the line box I guess. Everything was packed very, very, neatly. Each part had its own individual drawer in the box, so setting it up was no hassle.
So your left with a charging base, a USB cord, the battery and its lid, and the Mamba itself. First off you had to set your mouse up the way wanted to use it, wired OR wireless. I set mine up wireless. Then you got to install the drivers from Razer's website, and here's the first issue. Razer's first release driver was very buggy, the cursor was very jump and the mouse was unresponsive at times, they released a new one so that's hardly a problem now and the mouse works flawlessly.
Sadly, the mouse's driver ran on Synapse 1.0, mean 2.0 users will have no support for the mouse, until Razer does something. I don't own any other Razer products asides from my Vespula mousepad, so its not a bad thing unless your whole loadout is Razer powered, and I'd rather not have a million different drivers on my PC. Other than that, the interface is great, everything is easy to use and you can setup custom profiles for different users and set your DPI right from the mouse, 100 to 6400 DPI. I recommend playing on something around the 1600 mark, not too fast not too slow, and just work your way up to a comfortable level. And you gotta love having your mouse do rainbow spectrums, really who doesn't like rainbows. Battery life is 16 hours depending on how you tune your mouse.
Comfortwise, if your a fan of the Razer Deathadder, your in luck, the Mamba is the EXACT same shape as a Deathadder, as a result its very comfortable. It works best with a Vespula Mousepad or the old Exactmat, because of the gel wristpad and the hard, solid surfaces. All the buttons are very easy to access and the fact that you can tune this mouse to your exact specifications is great. The price can be a bit hefty for some and if can overcome it, or find one for less than $130, get it, you will have no regrets at all.
