Nerf Mega CycloneShock Review (9/10)

When you need to shoot from your back yard to your front yard, through your house,
The Mega series had been somewhat of a letdown for the most part as it's flagship blaster the Centurion is a dart demolishing pillock and the only two decent blasters are the Magnus and the monsterous Thunderbow. Well, not anymore. Allow me to introduce you to the CycloneShock, a hand cannon like no other.

Size compared to a Magnus and a Strongarm.
This blaster has garnered quite a reputation for being the answer to the Magnus's lowly ammo capacity. Its quite a massive thing, like as if a Strongarm decided to start drinking that muscle milk and grow a pair. This is probably the most solidly built blaster I've ever used, it's heavy and it feels extremely sturdy not even including the fact that it's very comfortable too.
Internals, complete with a massive plunger tube.
This blaster has by far the best stock seal of any Nerf blaster out there. If you dry fire it, the plunger takes an age to return back to the front. This probably explains why it hits like a ton of bricks and hits fairly consistent ranges of around the 60-65 foot mark which is quite good considering this thing is firing rounds twice the size of an Elite dart.
Plunger size versus a Nite Finder plunger.
So it all sounds very good, which it is. The main beef I have with this blaster though is it's lack of applicability. There is no real situation where this thing can outright replace a Strongarm or a FlipFury on the field for any good reason. The Mega darts are easier to spot than Elites, let alone the fact they aren't as commonly used so picking up dropped ammo is an issue, and compared to the smaller blasters, it also lacks slam fire. I'm not saying you shouldn't buy a Strongarm or a FlipFury over this as the CycloneShock is a haven for mod potential and will likely outshoot the smaller blasters easily converted to micros thanks to it's giant plunger tube.

In the end, the CycloneShock is an awesome blaster that's solidly built and packs a huge punch, but it lacks any real use other than for modding. Yes, it completely destroys the Magnus in terms of usability but there's no real incentive to use one of these over a Strongarm or FlipFury. I'm going to have to give this 9 out of 10 for being an all around great blaster, but it just filled a space that nobody really cared too much about to begin with.

The Verdict
Class- Heavy Revolver
Range- Excellent, around 60-65 feet with fair consistency.
Size- Roughly the same size as Magnus but a little bulkier.
Reliability- No issues.
Ammo- 6 2013 Mega Darts
Modding- Great potential, it can be rebarreled easily and the size of the plunger opens up a whole new world of possibilities for this monster.
Value- At $20, it's a better all around blaster than the Magnus but it's not as applicable as it's smaller counterparts.

Is It Better Than?

Magnus- Yes, the CycloneShock trumps the Magnus in every aspect. It has more ammo and a is a bit more powerful too. Plus you don't have to deal with the somewhat funky loading system either.

Strongarm- No, both blasters are of fairly equal power but the Strongarm is cheaper and is capable of slam fire. It really is all about choice here but I found the Strongarm to be more practical.

FlipFury- No, the Flipfury is the result of deciding the Strongarm wasn't good enough. It has a massive ammo capacity for a pistol and is capable of the same stuff the Strongarm is, but better.
