I have seriously seen nothing on the Ripshot until I came across it at Toys R Us today. I felt a little worried since the last two Vortex pistols I reviewed had some annoying problems and this one had potential to be another runner up. Take a look inside after the jump.
Size compared to a Strongarm.
The Ripshot can be seen as a alternate option to the Proton, since I don't believe that pistol is leaving the shelves anytime soon. I found this for $13 bucks, $3 more than the Ricochet. The blaster is rather ugly, like a prototype that slipped past finalizing and hit production. The pistol isn't very big but it's very comfortable to hold but a little awkward to use. The pistol is a front loader but the muzzle is huge so you really have to stuff the disc pretty far back in order to be able to prime it.
Internals are similar to the Ricochet, but they actually work.
The pistol performs like usual Vortex pistol, which is a great improvement over the trash range the Ricochet was hitting. The Ripshot's internals are not that much different from the Ricochet yet for whatever reason, this one actually works correctly, thus hitting the expected ranges. Also, this pistol has absolutely no mod potential, which isn't really a big deal to begin with.
The Ripshot isn't a terrible pistol, it hits good ranges and is fairly comfortable. It just has no mod potential and has a terrible loading system, plus it just looks terrible. This is a valid alternative to the Proton so if you want one, get it, provided you know what you are buying. I give the Ripshot a 7 out of 10 for having good performance overall but it's just finicky to use.
The Verdict
Class- Disc Launcher Pistol
Range- Excellent, 60 feet rather consistently.
Size- Slightly smaller than a Proton.
Reliability- It cannot really jam, despite a switch being present.
